Overview[]

Double Heads Variety Hour presents “Dads & Grads Part 2" where DJs Matt Fox and Dillon Minacci presents a playlist combining dad rock and marching band music. They face hard truths about their mortality, spineless rats, and spam email. Listen to the episode.

Episode Summary[]

The show begins with a call from regular caller Jim E. Brown, who calls to ask if the DJs actually believe in the mission of Oddwood Ales, which they do. He also discusses the strict emotional support animal laws in the UK, and that they don't extend to his spineless rat, who provides him emotional support. He asks if Oddwood Ales allows spineless rats, and the DJs don't know.

Due to Double Heads's perceived inability to curate good shows, KOOP technical engineer TJ Masters installs a new AI system to curate their future shows. Dillon and Matt try out the machine by plugging "dad rock" into the system, but are disturbed to find that it only returns songs that they grew up listening to in middle and high school. This leads to a dark realization that they are both older than they thought and will die sooner than later.

Fortunately, the marching band music cheers them up, as does a call from Jack, a South Austinite who is excited about a recent email he received from President Joe Biden – although Matt and Dillon are quick to point out it isn't a personalized email.

They receive a final call in the last minutes of the show from Brenda from AARP, who is excited to offer them junior memberships to AARP. They also discover that Brenda's HOA has banned Double Heads from the community pool even though they have never met her.

They decide the genres contradict.
